🤖 Mercenary System

We’re introducing a new Mercenary Bots system designed to help players complete content even when the server population is low.

When entering supported instances, missing party or alliance slots will automatically be filled with Mercenaries (AI companions) that assist you during combat.

This system ensures that important PvE content remains accessible even when a full group of players is not available.

How the System Works

When you enter a supported instance:

  • The game automatically assigns Mercenary companions to fill missing slots.
  • Each player can receive up to 5 mercenaries.
  • Mercenaries will attempt to create a balanced party composition.

Possible mercenary classes include:

  • Templar
  • Cleric
  • Chanter
  • Sorcerer
  • Spiritmaster
  • Assassin
  • Ranger
  • Gladiator
  • Gunner
  • Bard

The system will dynamically choose roles to help maintain a functional group.

Mercenary Behavior

Mercenaries are designed to assist the player who owns them.

Support Classes

Support-type mercenaries such as:

  • Cleric
  • Bard
  • Chanter

Will automatically focus on:

  • Healing their owner
  • Cleansing debuffs
  • Applying buffs

Combat Classes

Damage and tank mercenaries will:

  • Engage enemies
  • Assist the player during combat
  • Help maintain threat and damage output

Mercenary Lifetime

Mercenaries automatically disappear when:

  • The player leaves the instance
  • The player logs out
  • The instance ends

If a mercenary dies during combat:

  • The system will automatically replace the missing mercenary.

Mercenary Commands

Players can control their mercenaries using the following commands:

  • .merc list
Displays your current mercenary slots and assigned classes.

  • .merc classes
    Shows all available mercenary classes.

  • .merc attack (alias: .merc atk)
Mercenaries actively attack and assist you.

  • .merc guard (aliases: .merc defend, .merc def)
Mercenaries stay close and guard you.

  • .merc rest (aliases: .merc hold, .merc stop)
Mercenaries stop any action and just follow you.

  • .merc remove (aliases: .merc dismiss, .merc off)
Removes all mercenaries and disables automatic assignment.

  • .merc add (aliases: .merc enable, .merc on)
    Re-enables automatic mercenary assignment.

Advanced Commands

Advanced customization commands are also available:

.merc set <slot> <class>
Assigns a specific class to a mercenary slot.

.merc reroll <slot | all>
Randomizes the class for one slot or all mercenary slots.

.merc clear <slot | all>
Removes class overrides and returns the slot to automatic selection.

Valid Classes

The following classes can be assigned manually:

  • templar
  • cleric
  • chanter
  • sorcerer
  • spiritmaster
  • assassin
  • ranger
  • gladiator
  • gunner
  • bard

Command Cooldown

To prevent abuse and excessive changes:

  • Advanced mercenary commands have a 60-second cooldown.

Mercenaries NPC Hints

:small_blue_diamond: Mercenaries NPC Hints: (in case you prefer to use the command UI over .merc attack, guard or rest commands)

:one: Mercenaries NPC control UI menu doesn't show up:
- If the Mercenaries NPC control menu doesn't appear, close the client and restart it. As long as there are other teammates inside the instance, you will be loaded back into the same instance.
- Fix for this issue: :dart: Players can drag the Mercenaries NPC command skills from the skill window to their default skill bar and then move them into a quick bar. This will allow them to control the NPCs even if the control menu does not appear.

System Notes

Experimental Feature

This system is currently experimental and may not behave perfectly in all scenarios.

Possible issues may include:

  • AI positioning problems
  • Combat behavior inconsistencies
  • Pathfinding issues in some instances

These issues will be improved and adjusted over time.

General Information

  • Mercenaries only appear inside supported instances
  • Maximum 5 mercenaries per player
  • Mercenaries help compensate for low player population
  • They automatically disappear when the instance ends
  • If one dies, it will automatically be replaced

Fight your way through instances — even when allies are scarce.
